This set of images came from a three day visit to La Serenissima in October 2026.  The world is not short of beautiful images of Venice. My efforts are a purely personal response to spending time walking (or floating) around the city....  and just looking.

What intrigues me is that Venice is a working city, working primarly to service the tourism industry. This labour, of all kinds, from garbage disposal to ambulance emergencies, continues night and day, totally integrated with the mass of tourists.

Venice does have a fairly limited colour palette. The murky dark green water predominates, and most of the buildings are constructed with earthy red ochre little bricks. This minded me to shoot in mono and the clincher was realising that the Gondoliers iconic two tone striped tops are usually in black and white..
